I. Bicycle safety.
Always ride your bicycle on the right side of the road, and wear bright clothing. Dusk or at night, use lighting and reflectors. Use proper hand signals:
- Left hand, and arm extended outward is a left turn.
- Left hand, and arm bend upward is a right turn.
- Left hand and arm bent downward is stop signal.
ALWAYS LET YOUR PARENTS KNOW WHERE YOU ARE GOING. Maintain your bicycle; check brakes, oil moving parts e.g., chain, check tires for air pressure and tread wear. Always wear a helmet.
II.. Wild animals. (ferae naturae)
If you see a nocturnal ferau naturae during the daylight hours STAY AWAY! Ferau naturae which only waken at night hunt at night. Ferau naturae that are nocturnal and are awake during the day have distemper, and could have rabies. Rabies can be transmitted by petting a ferau naturae.
III. Always swim with a friend. (Buddy System).
If a lifeguard is on duty, obey his/her rules. People who are call for help while in the water are in distress. People who are drowning are unable to call for help. Wrestling in water is not a game; somebody will get hurt or drown. Never dive into an above ground pool. Never dive into the shallow end of a swimming pool; must be 6 feet deep. Always have adult supervision. When boating, always wear a lifejacket
IV. Home alone.
When answering the telephone, never tell a stranger you're home alone. Tell the stranger, "My parents are busy. May I take a message for them?" Never answer questions or give any information to a stranger over the telephone. That's your parents business. Never open your door to a stranger if you are home alone. Call 911.
V. Construction sites.
Never play on, in or near construction sites. It is dangerous, you could be seriously injured and you are trespassing. There are hidden dangers, i.e., loose lumber, holes and dangerous equipment.
VI. Skateboards - Playing ball.
Never chase after a ball into the street. Do not skateboard or play ball in the street. Skateboarding and basketball can be played in the church parking lot during hours that the church is not in use. The Ball fields and school can be used during the summer. Always use safety equipment, (helmets, elbow pads, gloves).
VII. 911.
Never play games by dialing 911. Every time 911 is dialed, the police will respond. Each time a person dials 911, the emergency dispatch knows immediately where the telephone number was dialed from. The dispatcher's computer will show, who lives at the home, what town the person lives in, the persons street address. The emergency dispatcher will call you back to find out what type of emergency you have, and who to send -- police, fire or rescue.
